Our minds travel along some amazing trails of thoughts and emotions. The moment you are out of bed these thoughts race through different trails. Not allowing you to settle down even for a bit. Happy, Sad, angry, high’s and lows’. Believe it or not, the trail for most of these is simple. But then comes this tricky trail which completely twists and tangles. “The TangleLows'”. They are easily fed making them easy to take us on to even more troubling and tangled trails.
This Picture totally mimics the Author Greg McGoon
Kids are more and more stressed these days. More than academics we have a bigger task on our hands. That is to bring up emotionally strong kids. Kids need to develop skills and understanding of their inner self so they could better cope when they encounter the emotions they cannot control. I am more than excited to review Traveling the Twisting Troubling Tanglelows’ Trails By author Greg McGoon whimsically reminds young children in a rhymic and rhythmic way that if you doubt yourself these Tanglelows will take you on rather twisted and tangled trails. The Illustrations by Jessa Orr are bright and beautiful.
This is one of the best children’s books that teach children about their inner(emotional) life like fears, self-judgment, self-doubts.
“I am all wrong”, “I am not smart”, “I am weak”, “I cannot understand”.
Author Greg McGoon wonderfully portrayed these Tanglelows, telling kids that they create lots and lots of unfortunate knots eventually forming a maze of Tanglelows. A Tanglelow maze which completely blocks the path to hope and to think and that it makes the happiness disappear.
‘They’ll cause your brain to be in a jumble,
Unkind, self-doubt, are its friends, These Low’s will cause the brain to jumble and booking around till you feel you will fumble…”
Traveling the Twisting Troubling Tanglelow’s Trail not only talks about how one’s thoughts can become tangled and twisted but provides insights into how the kids can untangle the Tanglelows.
“Speak to fulfill, that is a clue.
Words are not empty, be honest and true.”
I am having bad thoughts my son declared one day and the only answer I had was,”Try to think about something good”. But this book has shown me a way to visually show his thoughts and emotions. This interactive approach of showing kids the thoughts inside their mind is a clear genius.
I would encourage parents not to use this book as a bedtime story but rather to read along with the kids and explain the powerful message the book is conveying. This is a must read for beautiful young minds which tell children how to respond to the day to day thoughts that they encounter and how they can control and be kinder to others and to themselves.
